Two Pretties

Some long ago finished projects I want to share!

Textured Shawl

Pattern: Textured Shawl Recipe by orlane
Yarn: Blue Sky Suri Merino color #411; 2 skeins
Needles: Addi 24″ US 8
Measurements: Small shawl; neck wrap
Started: April 15, 2009
Finished: April 29, 2009
Other Details: I don’t quite remember when I started and finished this, but it was such an easy and relaxing knit! I didn’t even come close to having enough yarn to make it through the 28 garter rows, but thats okay. It is a little small to fit around my broad shoulders, so it looks like I will be wearing it more tied in front.

And another project for a super sweet friend’s birthday –

Simple Yet Effective Handspun Shawl
Handspun closeup

Pattern: Simple Yet Effective Shawl, by Laura Chau
Yarn: Handspun Pigeonroof Studios
Needles: Addi Lace 32″ US 4 (3.5mm)
Measurements: About 45″ across top and 20″ down center
Started: May 4, 2009
Finished: May 10, 2009
Other Details: I had fun knitting this again in some gorgeous handspun… I started and finished it while we were camping in SE Utah.

Sorry for the not so great pictures! We snapped these a few weeks back, right before a huge thunderstorm moved through. Awell!! I have so many other things to catch up on: gardening, our utah trip, some spinning… We are leaving for Boston on a red-eye tonight but am planning on blogging on our travels. Maybe we will even have some pretty pictures from Maine!

Flutter Scarf

I fell in love with this pattern last spring, and finally found some deserving yarn when I visited Colorful Yarns this summer. I breezed through the first half of the scarf, but then, like lots of other projects, it was forgotten about until last month. Lots of knitting and a few days later – a finished Flutter Scarf!

Pattern: Flutter Scarf, by Miriam Felton
Yarn: Curious Creek Fibers Meru in Mysterious Night, 1 skein
Needles: Addi Lace 24″ US3 (3.25mm)
Measurements: Approximately 58″ long and 8″ wide while blocking
Started: July 26, 2008
Finished: December 25, 2008
Other Details: I did 44 repeats on each half of the scarf, rather than 50

Have a wonderful weekend!

The Forever Scarf

On the last day of this really, really interesting year I have a new scarf to wear. Sometimes its hard to appreciate little things like this, but on a day like today, I do. Its warm, its green, its Malabrigo – whats not to like?! Two years in the making, my Here and There Scarf…..

Pattern: Here and There Cables by Norah Gaughan; from Scarf Style
Yarn: Malabrigo Worsted in Verdes (thanks Katie!); 3 skeins
Needles: Addi 24″ US7 (4.5mm)
Measurements: Approximately 72″ long and 7″ wide
Started: December 29, 2006
Finished: December 25, 2008
Other Details: I remember that I cut off one cable repeat to make it a bit narrower

Wishing you all a wonderful and joyous 2009!!!

Simple Yet Effective

Yep, its another birthday present for my mom! I saw this on the Thursday before her birthday, and ran out to find a skein of Noro Kureyon sock yarn. I found this colorway at Mew Mew’s yarn shop (the store is named after the owner’s cat – I met the cat!) in Louisville and though it would work up beautifully.

Even though I would never use this yarn for socks, it sure did work out really well for a small shawl. It knit up oh, so quick too! Laura gets an A+ for the most accurate pattern name (not to mention beautifully, easy pattern). My mom loved it, and I hope she wears it lots as the colder weather sets in. She even allowed me to take a few pictures of it on….

Pattern: Simple Yet Effective Shawl, by Laura Chau
Yarn: Noro Kureyon Sock yarn #S188
Needles: Addi Lace 32″ US 4 (3.5mm)
Measurements: About 41″ across top and 19″ down center
Started: October 9, 2008
Finished: October 12, 2008
Other Details: I cut off the last 6 rows or so, since I was running short on time.

Clapotis

Yes, its another finished Clapotis; ready to join the masses! Mine had a chance to swing in the breeze up at Chatauqua this afternoon – it was fun and I hope you enjoy the pictures…

And, the final project details:

Pattern: Clapotis, by Kate Gilbert; published at Knitty.com
Yarn: Artyarns Regal Silk in color #141; 3 balls
Needles: Addi 24″ US6 (4.00mm)
Measurements: About 13″ wide, and 76″ long while blocking
Started: March 29, 2008
Finished: July 11, 2008
Other Details: I only increased up to 71 stitches and added some extra length. Overall, this was a relaxing and enjoyable knit, and I love, love the colors I ended up using!
